About Us
Carding is the process of combing and cleaning fibers before spinning them. A strand, a thread, a yarn.
Cardan Cabos represents for us that symbolic process of releasing impurities, ordering what is tangled, and opening the way to the new.
It's about weaving from the essential: a new yarn, a new story.
We are a textile design brand specializing in clothing and home goods. We were founded in 2015 by Uruguayan textile designer Soledad Oliver, with the intention of creating pieces that speak of care, craftsmanship, and a connection with materials.
Each product undergoes a long and detailed design process. We experiment with different weaving techniques, achieving unique compositions in texture, shape, and color. We work in collaboration with local artisans, sharing knowledge and experiences in a constant exchange that allows us to delve ever deeper into this fascinating world of textile design.
Merino wool is our primary raw material; high-quality, versatile, and with numerous benefits. We choose it not only for its quality but also because it is a national product, thus supporting Uruguayan industry.
We spin our extra-fine merino wool tops in Uruguayan mills in various thicknesses to create garments that adapt to different moments of everyday life. We have a special love for super-warm, hand-knitted pieces for winter days. But we also love designing cool and lightweight garments with embroidered details, pattern making, or eco-prints that make them unique pieces, without neglecting classic designs that are essential in your wardrobe.
We are constantly striving to improve the quality of our products and strengthen the values that define our brand.
Eight years ago we incorporated natural dyes and botanical printing, giving rise to a sustainable line that today represents an essential part of our design proposal.
Our goal is to raise awareness within the design world and to be an active part of those who choose a more responsible path.
Reducing the use of synthetic dyes was a necessary decision, a firm step towards a more conscious and environmentally friendly practice.
We must act urgently and responsibly, consuming consciously. Every action we take makes a difference.
Soledad Oliver is a textile designer, a graduate of the former Industrial Design Center (CDI), now the University School of Design Center. During her studies, various areas sparked her interest: screen printing, pattern making, working with textures, and especially textiles.
Her thesis project focused on macramé, a technique she applied to the design of light fixtures capable of generating light and shadow effects through weaving. To create them, she reused discarded computer cables, opting for a sustainable design approach and demonstrating her commitment to environmental protection.
Passionate about design in all its forms, an observer of nature, and with a constant desire to learn, Soledad created her own brand, Cardan Cabos, a project where design and nature converge. Her primary means of expression is textiles, inspired by the shapes and textures of her surroundings.
She currently lives in La Barra, Maldonado, a small coastal resort in Uruguay, surrounded by forest and sea. There, she takes advantage of the local resources to walk on the beach, knit, and create—activities she now defines as her forms of meditation.
