The designer
Soledad Oliver is a textile designer graduated from the former CDI (Centro de Diseño Industrial; now Escuela Universitaria Centro de Diseño). During her studies at CDI, several areas of the program sparked her interest, such as screen printing, pattern making, working with textures, and, of course, textiles. This led her to develop her graduation thesis on the Macramé weaving technique applied to lighting fixtures designed to create interactive effects between light and shadows through the woven patterns. The materials used for these lamps were cables of varying thicknesses sourced from disused computers. This approach also highlighted her focus on sustainable design, reflecting her concern for environmental conservation.
Always passionate about design in general, a keen observer of nature, and eager to learn, she decided to create her own brand, her signature identity now known as Cardan Cabos. This is how she merges design and nature. Her form of expression is through textiles, using her surrounding environment—its shapes and textures—as a source of inspiration.
She currently lives in La Barra, Maldonado, a small coastal town in Uruguay, surrounded by forests and sea. Drawing from the resources this place offers, she often spends hours walking along the beach, knitting, and creating—hobbies that Soledad now describes as her forms of meditation.
