Our Story<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\"Cardar\" means to comb and clean textile fibers before spinning them. \"Cabo\" means strand or thread. \"Cardan Cabos\" is, for us, the process of removing impurities that affect our journey in some way. We seek to build something new\u2014a new yarn, a new story.\n\nWe are a textile design brand specializing in clothing and home goods. Founded in 2015 by Uruguayan textile designer Soledad Oliver.\n\nEach of our products undergoes a long design process. We are always experimenting with different weaving techniques, achieving varied textures and compositions. We work alongside local artisans, constantly exchanging knowledge about weaving, immersing ourselves deeper into the fascinating world of textile design. \n\n\n<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

We spin the top of extra-fine Merino wool at Uruguayan spinning mills in different thicknesses to create garments that adapt to different moments of everyday life. We have a special love for hand-knitted, super-warm, and heavyweight pieces for winter days. But we also enjoy designing fresh, lightweight garments with embroidery, pattern-making, or eco-print details that turn them into unique pieces\u2014without overlooking the classic designs that are a must in your wardrobe.\n\nWe choose Merino wool primarily because it is a local raw material, thus supporting Uruguayan industry. We also consider it a noble material with many properties and benefits. <\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

A while ago, we decided to start dyeing some of our yarns with natural dyes and creating prints with ecoprint (botanical printing). Discovering this world has been fascinating. We\u2019re thrilled with the results we\u2019ve been achieving and believe this is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Cardan Cabos.\n\n<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our aim is to spark awareness in the design world and unite with others on the path to sustainability. Reducing synthetic dyes in our products was a necessary step we felt compelled to take. We must act urgently and responsibly, embracing mindful consumption. The designer<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Soledad Oliver is a textile designer who graduated from the former CDI (Centro de Dise\u00f1o Industrial; now the Escuela Universitaria Centro de Dise\u00f1o). During her studies at CDI, several areas of the program captured her interest, such as screen printing, pattern-making, working with textures, and, of course, textiles. This passion led her to base her final thesis on the macram\u00e9 technique, implemented in lighting fixtures designed to create interactive effects of light and shadow through weaving. The materials used for these lamps were cables of varying thicknesses sourced from discarded computers\u2014reflecting her focus on sustainable design and her commitment to environmental care.<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Always passionate about design in all its forms, a keen observer of nature, and eager to learn, she decided to create her own brand\u2014her signature and identity\u2014now known as Cardan Cabos. This is how she fuses design and nature, expressing herself through textiles, drawing inspiration from the shapes and textures of her surroundings.\n\nToday, she lives in La Barra, Maldonado, a small coastal town in Uruguay surrounded by forests and sea.
